HISTORY
A Rich Heritage
Coastal's origins in Louisiana began with the major road program started in 1928 when Huey Long was Governor of the state. Forcum-James Company of Dyersburg, Tennessee, a company started in the early 1900's by a banker and a lumber mill operator, came to Baton Rouge to participate in this massive construction program. The company remained in business here as ForcumJames until 1954 when that company was split up and Coastal Contractors, Inc. and Coastal Asphalt Company were formed along with several other Tennessee contractors. Coastal Asphalt Company was sold in 1960 and its name was changed. Coastal Contractors, Inc. continued doing business in the highway and heavy construction market.
Coastal Bridge Co., Inc. was formed in 1956 primarily to do the bridge and marine construction for Coastal Contractors, Inc. The Louisiana operations of Delta Asphalt of Missouri were added to the companies when it was purchased by Coastal Bridge Co., Inc. in 1995. Most of the business today is conducted through Coastal Bridge Co., Inc. In 2000, Coastal Bridge Co., Inc. was incorporated under Coastal Bridge Company, LLC.
